Walk With Me Review – Keep in mind

They’re making a big deal of the fact that this documentary be narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. He’s in the trailer, he gets the main on end credit, he doesn’t deserve this.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Review – Cards Against Cinema

So much of the time Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri feels great. Then one of its black characters enters a scene. It’s rough seeing an able movie so deftly shoot itself in the foot, cos as elegant and taut as Martin McDonagh’s plotting and dialogue feels he is totally unable to write people of colour…

Darkest Hour Review – 21st century greasepaint

Get this right, Gary Oldman ain’t actually a really fat dude, but in this film right here he is. Mind blowing right? That someone can just do that and make it a film. He’s not fat in real life. Wow.

Coco Review – New life for Pixar

I’m not sure if I were feeling particularly weak in the theatre yesterday. There was not a single point throughout Coco that I was not either laughing or crying. Lee Unkrich & Adrian Molina’s film flies straight towards the top of the Pixar canon.

All the Money in the World Review: Whatta document

I love watching drama that don’t got nothing to do with me. I’m super basic when it comes to that. It’s what made me super interested in the post-production of All the Money in the World, when I mostly try to stay impervious to insider shit.

Pitch Perfect 3 Review – Trip on the victory lap

This might properly hit harder for me if I had seen the other two movies. I don’t even know if acapella was even in in 2011. It must have been probably, these movies made bank.

Molly’s Game Review – Power and protection

For Molly’s Game, his directorial debut, Aaron Sorkin has written himself a script of his hits. It’s safe material I guess, stuff that he knows works, stuff that he’s confident he’ll be able to execute

Ferdinand Review: I found a problem

I don’t think Ferdinand is really something we read in the UK. Or at least, nobody I’ve talked to about the film has been familiar with the source material.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Review: Nowhere Movie

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a nowhere movie. It isn’t set anywhere, doesn’t have any real characters at all, nor does it have literally anything to say at all.

The Greatest Showman Review – I can believe they’re referring to Jackman

Usually when you’re watching a film that ain’t great you can get a sense of what it came from. It feels like even if everything is tugging the celluloid in the wrong direction, at least it knows where it’s going.
